Tell us a bit about yourself.

Kendra James: Like what? I’m a feisty redhead!

How did you create the name?

Kendra James: It’s my name plus a friend’s last name. I know, real creative, lol.

What are your stats/measurements?

Kendra James: 32C- 25 – 35

What do you enjoy most about being a porn star?

Kendra James: The hours. I have a very flexible schedule and can take off when I want to, to wherever I want to. Having that flexibilty does not suck. I also enjoy being creative, especially in filming my own movies. I can write and direct my own scripts and get a little weird with things.

Do you have any other jobs?

Kendra James: I do not. I’ve worked in the music industry, as well as the beauty industry. But, in 2008, I decided to perform, and run my own site and clip stores full time. It was a little daunting and running your own business can certainly have its ups and downs, but ultimately I think it was the best decision for me.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Kendra James: Geez, probably still working in porn! At this point, I’m trying to make the move to be on film less and shoot my own productions featuring other performers more, so even if I’m not on camera, I’ll still be behind it!

What projects are you working on that you can tell us about?

Kendra James: Shooting, always shooting! I’ll be filming more superheroine movies, plus I’m hoping to add a tentacle porn video to my schedule. I keep playing with the idea of crowd funding a hentai/ tentacle movie, and hope to get that off the ground in the next couple moths. Beyond that, I’ll be at Comic Con San Diego, Fetish Con in St Pete, Exxxotica NJ, and of course, AVN.

Have you ever been grossed out during a shoot?

Kendra James: I don’t think I’ve ever been grossed out by another porn star, but I have done some pro domination sessions and fetish shoots that were questionable. Many years ago, I was the assistant on a shoot in which a model got several gallons of baked beans poured on her, a speculum put in her pussy, and then pissed all over. Kendra James: The very first shoot I was on was at a beach house in Santa Cruz, CA. There was a boy/girl scene happening on the redwood deck outside. At the end, she came inside, lay on the couch, and had another performer pull splinters from her ass. Not so funny for her, but it made me giggle.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to be a porn star?

Kendra James: To understand it’s fickle, save your money, invest, educate yourself, and come up with a long-term plan.

Has the stigma around the adult industry affected you?

Kendra James: Of course. I tend to be very secretive about what I do, so as not to alienate anyone. You never know how someone will react, and even if it’s not negatively, there are generally still a lot of questions. I’d rather not get interrogated, so I just don’t talk about it. I also don’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable, and the idea of sex on film can cause some people to squirm.

When the questions do arise, I try to be as calm and thoughtful as I can be. I feel like the general impression people have of those who work in adult (particularly women) is that we have no other options, and that we’re uneducated, desperate, deviant and/or money-hungry. You have to try and dispel those beliefs and make people understand this is a legitimate business, performers actually have registered companies, and many are well educated and have made a conscious choice to do this.

What’s the weirdest thing that you’ve been asked to do during a shoot?

Kendra James: As I’m writing, this I’m on set doing quicksand porn in the middle of nowhere in Tennessee. All-day long, I’ve been playing in mud with other women, blowing bubbles into a woman’s mud-covered pussy and sinking, while naked in quicksand. My idea of what’s weird and what’s not is pretty skewed at this point. LOL I don’t even bat an eye anymore.

Do you get recognised outside of the industry?

Kendra James: I’ve been recognized several times, and it’s always a little weird to me. In the beginning, I didn’t think anyone was watching, and thought this was just a fun job I did and got paid for. There are so many performers out there, so I’m flattered when people come up to me at bars, clubs, the nail salon, or even on the street and bashfully say hello.

There are have been some weird instances too, however. One guy came up to me outside of a bar while I was hanging out with civilian friends and just blurted out, “I’ve been masturbating to you for years!”. It took me aback, but what can you do except laugh it off?

Do you watch porn?

Kendra James: Nope. I’ve been making it for 20 years, live it every day, and need a break when I’m not filming or editing it. Otherwise, I’d get overwhelmed.

If you weren’t shooting porn what would you be doing?

Kendra James: I’d be a make-up artist and would probably (and may still) go to school to be a physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner, so I could administer fillers and work in the cosmetic surgery field.

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of the industry?

Kendra James: Wait, there are things outside of the industry?! I’m at the beach a lot, go paddle boarding, diving, and have recently been trying to paint more often.

what’s the most difficult thing about being a porn star?

Kendra James: I’d say the uncertainty is the most difficult. My paycheck depends on how many scenes I do, how many sign ups on my members site, how many videos I sell on my clips stores ,and who is ordering custom videos. This can fluctuate wildly month to month, so saving money is very important, as this is so undependable. I suppose any small business or independent entrepreneur deals with this, thouh.

To date which porn scene are you most proud of?

Kendra James: I really enjoyed filming my Batwoman/ Beast scene (available on KendraClips.com and also on my Batwoman DVD).
