Andy Zane: I’m 32, never on time, devastatingly mediocre looking and I have a penis that’s just large enough to not be considered an oversized clitoris.s offered me a raise.
What’s the difference between directing and an editor?
Andy Zane: Being an editor requires a lot more work than directing but doesn’t pay as well.
How did you get into directing?
Andy Zane: I started off in editing and then got sick of editing other directors’ mistakes and felt better about just editing my own mistakes. I figured that if I could shoot to edit, that I could streamline my workflow and not hate my life as much. Also, my boss offered me a raise.
Can you explain briefly what a director does?
Andy Zane: Directors in the porn industry basically keep their performers in the dark until the day of the shoot, have a very vague concept of what they’re doing, improvise pretty much everything and pretend that they’re the most important people on set, even though they’re spending someone else’s money. Then get mad when they don’t win awards. I speak from experience.
Why directing?
Andy Zane: More money than editing and because I enjoy playing God and telling people what to do.
My Favorite Pornstar: Can you explain how directing has changed over the past few years?
Andy Zane: I don’t know that it has for anyone else, but I can definitely say with absolute confidence that what has changed for me, is that I just don’t try as hard anymore and it’s very relieving.
You recently won several awards what specifically won you the award?
Andy Zane: I’ve won awards for Best Gonzo something something for A XXX Documentary, which I’m very proud of. I’ve won awards for Best Soundtrack, which is cool because I make all my own music and I won Best Taboo something something for a dvd called Dysfucktional: Blood is Thicker Than Cum, because I hate my mother.
If you weren’t directing what would you be doing?
Andy Zane: 100% I would be giving hand jobs to Wall Street guys in hopes that they’d pay me or look me in the eye just once. No, uhm, I don’t know, probably just camera operating and crying.
What mix of modern an older techniques do you use?
Andy Zane: Honestly, I, like many people in this industry, have no idea what I’m actually doing…so I’d say I use the good old Improvisation method, try to make it fun for everyone and try to go home early.
As a director you need to keep ahead of demand, how do you do this?
Andy Zane: Lots of pacing, not enough sleeping. Enough existential crisis for a small village of middle aged men and pretending to know what you’re doing.
What advice would you give to aspiring actors?
Andy Zane: The best acting is reacting, just because you have a big penis doesn’t mean you can fuck. And it’s not about how good you look, it’s about how much you bring to the table. Presence is everything.
